Lending a hand to Haiti
Top of The Charts airs a special commercial- and music-free broadcast to help earthquake relief efforts
NOTES FROM JB:
We've put together lots of big shows in the past four years but nothing like this one. Literally after an idea was tossed out, this whole production started rolling. It was late evening after taping the Entertainment Wrap Up for Wednesday and getting information from TV colleagues about a special airing today that something needed to be done for radio. Literally within 24 hours an entire show full of guests was planned and executed. And it was all over 72 hours later, but damn was it worth it! What I put myself through is nothing compared to what those in Haiti are forced to deal with. Maybe unintentionally starving myself of food and depriving myself of sleep was a good wake-up call to somewhat -- and in very little part -- walk in the shoes of Haitians for at least a short time.
As with any of the ambitious shows we do, this one started out simple on paper: make some calls and get some guests. But I am stubborn and always want to take things one step further. It wasn't good enough to talk to someone from the Canadian Forces, I needed someone from the Canadian Forces on the ground in Haiti. I know the media reps in Ottawa are very sick of me right now. But in the 11th hour, I finally got what I wanted.
The show is never easy to put together once I get involved into deep brainstorming. It's been very long days. I wasn't sleeping or eating properly because of the focus on doing this show justice. (For the record I had a huge, amazing dinner last night to make up for it!) I'd pretty much gone into hiding aside from handling correspondence relating to this show.
I present to you one hour of very special programming. There's no flashy music and no commercials. It's a captivating show that I hope you enjoy. Use the information our guests pass along and do what you can to help Haiti. You'll feel as good as I do in lending a hand and a heart to those in need.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need some sleep because it's awards show season and I've gotta be alive for the Screen Actors Guild Awards Saturday night!
